When you load Gravit Designer, you'll be greeted with this screen.
-
We will almost always use the 'Custom Size' option, the middle button on the second row.
-
Change the dimensions to inches, and set the size as 5x3 and click the button.
-
-
-
Select the rectangle tool from the toolbar, or use the R key.
-
Click on a point to start the rectangle. I use the top left corner in this example.
-
Drag out to the end point and release to finish the rectangle.
-
Finally, change the fill color from the right inspector sidebar.
-
-
-
Select the new rectangle. If it is not currently select, grab the pointer tool from the toolbar, or use the V key to enable the pointer tool, then click on the rectangle.
-
Use your usual copy and paste keys. CMD+C to copy, CMD+V to paste.
-
Simply drag the new design down the other side of the flag. Eye ball the positioning the best you can.
-
-
-
Select the star tool from the dropdown. There is no keyboard shortcut for the star tool.
-
Click to start, and drag until you have a simple star.
-
Change the stars color to red.
-
Set the number of points to 6.
-
-
-
Gravit has a feature called Smart Shapes that let us customize our start to make it look perfect.
-
Grab the subselect tool from the dropdown, or use the D key.
-
Click on the star
-
You'll be shown a star with lots of points now. You can click and drag the orange points to redefine the stars shape.
-
You can also rotate the start using the rotator knob just above the bounding box of the star.
-
-
-
Now we need 4 stars.
-
Select the pointer tool, or use the V key to select it.
-
Click on your start, and use the normal copy and paste keys.
-
Rearrange them the best you can.
-
Select all of the stars by clicking holding to draw a box around just our 4 stars.
-
Use the alignment and distribution tools at the top of the inspector panel in the right sidebar to arrange the stars perfectly.
-
First hit the 'Align Vertically' button. This will line them up in a nice straight line,
-
Then hit the 'Distribute Horizontal'. This will evenly space the 4 stars.
-
-
-
First, save your work. Hit the save button, or CMD+S. This will download a file to your computer that you can import later.
-
To export, hit the export button in the top right.
-
Then in the popup window, set the format to 'SVG'.
-
Finally, hit the Export button.
-
This will download a .SVG file that you can submit for use on the vinyl cutter or the laser cutter.
